HAPPY EASTER

April 8, 2007 (2:43pm)
36º F, Overcast, 5 wind NNW mph.

Good afternoon,

Easter Sunday is here and th ham is in the oven. Sure starting to smell good too! We are not doing a big celebration thing this year. As if we really ever do. We picked up 7# ham last week for 79¢/#. About th cheapest we have seen for some time. Also having peas and cornbread. Then there is the Tiramisu for dessert! I am sure we will have more than enough for the meal. Margriet seems to enjoy fussing for these meals, but eventually we have figured out we don’t eat as much as we used to and there isn’t any company coming to share the meal.

Margriet and I were ushers for the second service today. I figured the number of folks attending would be down, but there were less than 150 total for both services. Usually we have had more than that on a "normal" Sunday, many more on a festival Sunday. There really wasn’t anything much special in the service either, other than the choir (only 8 folks) sang at both services. I really was rather disappointed.

The Easter brunch between services, had more food than people, but that is somewhat normal. There is always good food and plentiful. Today was no different. It seems the gals in charge have settled on a standardized menu - which ain’t too bad. There always are some differences with the different cooks involved. Both of us were more than adequately filled.

One of the gals of our membership raises sheep. She brought a rather small lamb along for the children after the second service. I think the adults enjoyed it more that the little ones did. It was about the size of a long-legged, skinny, cocker spaniel. I figured it was about the right size to make a sandwich from. Got into some trouble when I mentioned that to a couple of the gals standing near me. The lamb was rather well behave, following Gabriel around rather closely. It was also house broken - almost. Did cause one small problem.

We made our normal Sunday morning run into Algoma. Not for lunch, but rather out of habit and to stop at the grocery store there to pick up a paper. There were also a couple fo bargains. Country style ribs and chicken backsides were on sale and we were about out of them. It won’t be long and we will be forced to stop at Otto’s Meat Market again. Seems we are about out of the really good stuff. Still a couple of meals left yet. We sure do eat poorly around here!

We went to the Good Friday afternoon service at the Congregational Church in Kewaunee. Normally we have an ecumenical service at one of four churches in the area. This year the afternoon service was in Kewaunee and the evening service at Grace. Don’t know what happened to the other churches. Most of the folks at the afternoon service were from Grace. Wonder how many were at Grace in the evening. It really was a nice service and the church, being some older than Grace, was very charming for a change. Looked like it was built in the 20's or 30's and looked/felt like a church of the time. Nice.

I still am fussing with the computer system. Not everything is up to snuff yet. I still have a lot of "stuff" from the PC to this notebook. I wasn’t even able to get Easter e-cards out this year as the addresses are on the PC and I have no access to them from here. I have managed to get all of the Windows and Norton updates made (a lot since the time this machine was made), which too A LOT of time. WordPerfect is also on now and that makes life a bunch easier. It was installed before, but when I wiped the hard drive, it too disappeared. Lots of programs and websites yet to load too. Should be out of mischief ro a bit yet.

We woke up this morning without any new snow on the ground. First time fo several days. We have been getting ½"-1" overnight, only to have most of it melt during the daylight. The wind has also been fierce for about the past week. Today, the wind is down and the temperature is up. Finally feels less than cold outside. The weatherman is predicting a pretty good snow towards the end of the week again. It really has been snowing rather hard in the U. P. for the past few days. Some places well over 4 feet deep!

Time to get a-going.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris <><
