Moving on

September 5, 2007 (4:42am)
59º F, Fog, No Wind.

Good morning,

We are heading to Kewaunee this morning. Want to get a fairly early start this morning, hoping to make a couple of stops on the way. I would like to get most of the packing done today, but know better. I probably will get up early tomorrow and get things into the truck. I suspect that we will be stopping at the Old Country Buffet on the way home tomorrow. Somehow our timing is such that it happens often. I do have the empty boxes, &c. loaded in the truck and the other buildings closed and locked up. The real question of our start time this morning is the lifting of the fog. Don’t like driving in that with all of the wildlife around here.

I did get some things done yesterday, but nothing totally. Continued to fill the hole some. I seems to be getting bigger! Or the shovel smaller. We did look for a water hydrant and found some at one place, but not insulated. We will check out Fleet Farm on the way down and see what they have, but suspect our findings will be the same. If that is the case, I will get serious about filling in the hole and not put in a hydrant. Would be nice to have though. Probably will eventually put one on each side of the main house, but not a priority at the moment.

I also did get more limbing done on the trees I dropped the other day, but this time with an ax. There sure are a lot of limbs on them. Gonna’ be a lot of places for rabbits to be hiding soon. Hope the deer decide to chew on the piles of branches and within range of my rifle. Or so I hope.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a website, so checked it out to find what was necessary to buy a hunting license. Still not too sure what the residency requirements are, other than the “intent” to live and stay in Michigan. The DNR has a district office just down the road a bit, so will stop there one of these first days. I did find out that almost all license fees for seniors is $ 6.00 for each license. I think that is about a third of the cost in Wisconsin. If I were in the military, each license would be a buck. I haven’t figured out the bag limits yet, as they are a bit confusing to me at the moment. A different system to get used to is the problem. From the sound of it, they are trying to get folks to shoot does rather than bucks, but that varies within each area. Don’t plan to go anywhere than these 19 acres to hunt. There also is a property owner kill allowed in addition to the normal bag limit, but not sure how that works either. Lots of questions. Suppose I had better find my shoot guns and get them sighted in too. It has been a while. I am sure I have enough ammunition, since after sighting it in, I don’t spend very many rounds.

So my Woman is up and I had better get my face scraped and on the road. Think we might stop at Florence for breakfast - if we get out of here early enough. That should give the fog a chance to lift too.

Time to get a-going.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris <><
