Fjord is home!

November 1, 2007 (6:23am)
34º F, Overcast, NNW Wind, 4 mph.

Good morning,

Eating like a king and queen here. We had some of the steaks Eli provided to us for supper last night. The T-bones turned out to be 2 New York strip steaks and a couple of sirloin steaks. When I saw the package as Eli put them into his refrigerator, they were the shape of T-bones wrapped up. Need the less, what we had last night was excellent and I thing the best cuts of beef we have ever had in our home. Margriet also learned how to use the broiler in our new range, not ever using one on a gas range before. I think she learned well! The rest of the meal consisted of kohlrabi. That was good eating too.

Fjord is home! It was a bit if a tussle to get it here though. Mick has an junk Allis Chalmers he needs to deliver to Florence to a guy who wants it for parts and we are on the way there. So ... he thought he could put both tractors on the trailer and drop one off here before heading to Florence. Using their forklift, he put the AC on the trailer katy-whumpus to allow room for Fjord. The weight of the AC was a bit much for his pick-up and it was decided there would not be enough room for Fjord with the loader attached. Off came the AC and on went Fjord. Mick had too many things to do to make two trips with the tractors, so I ended up driving the rig home and unloading Fjord. I am still learning how to operate Fjord, so it was some interesting getting it off in one piece with the rubber on the bottom side. I did accomplish the task however.

Fjord starts some hard, but I really don’t expect much different for the time being, especially with all of the oil we pumped into the engine cylinders. I am sure it will take a bit to clear the engine of that, but may need to change points too. Also noticed that one of the loader cylinders is leaking at the top, but may be able to tighten that up and stop the leak. There is much yet to do on Fjord, so will be busy in my spare time for some time to come. Margriet promised to wash and wax Fjord, along with crocheting a seat cushion too. Thought that was a nice gesture on her part. :-)

Hopefully we well break bread with Eli and his wife this evening. Mick has a volleyball game his oldest daughter is playing in. So we will be going to Alice’s in Iron River twice. Didn’t want to wait too long as Pat is going for surgery early next week and things are very up in the air for some time to come for them. Mick was busy until next week, so we will catch up to he and his wife then.

Margriet and I are very happy to have Fjord home and many trips to Iron River daily at an end. Now I can get back to the business of getting this place in order. Travel time and work time sure made for a lot of time away from Guds Nordtre. It was a totally enjoyable time for me, but not too sure about how good it was for Margriet. Know she wanted be around more. I know she will like the not washing greasy clothing as much too.

Cooler weather for today and the next few. More normal like. It started to rain when I got to Eli’s yesterday after a rather warm start to the day. With the rain, the temperature dropped and continued to all day and into the night. Is supposed to warm a bit today, the drop and stay down. The high winds really made it feel cold yesterday.

Time to get the day a-going.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris <><
