Little Grandma's Birthday

41 F, cloudy dark

Good morning,

Today is my Mom's birthday. Seems like yesterday I was making trips to Milwaukee with her completed shopping list and a cooler filled with frozen, prepared, "leftovers" for her to have as meals. It was a lot of fun to package them up for her. Always made more than necessary for a meal, so I could put some into a small container for her. Shopping trips for her were always a highlight for me too. It was fun to buy for her. Often times she would want me to buy some lamb or veal for her. Both were off the page in price, even then. Often I would refuse and then listening to her complaint and thanking me for not wasting money in the same sentence! I did pick up lamb on occasion when it was on sale, not very often, but veal was next to impossible to find. Always wished she and Dad would have moved closer, but that was not to happen.

We had a visitor in the kitchen last night - the house mouse. It left calling cards on the counters in the kitchen and sampled the last piece of the Swedish Church Bread. Usually that in an indicator of cooler weather coming, which does not surprise me too much. Certainly will be glad to have it in a trap somewhere. Sooner than later.

We have had some serious events in the area the past week or so. Not only in our church family, but the surrounding area too. A week ago, a home exploded at 7:30 A.M. about half way from here to Green Bay (west of Bushville a bit, north of Denmark, northeast of Poland, and south of Luxemburg). Fortunately everyone was on their way to work or school, so no one was at home. The house was destroyed. A couple of days ago, a dump truck was hit by a freight train and both burned. The truck driver was killed, but the area was evacuated. The train was pulling only two tankers - one filled with LP gas and the other with chlorine. Neither car leaked, but the area residents were evacuated just in case. There also were two very large, serious accidents on U.S. Highway 41 outside of Green Bay. Both closed the highway down completely for several hours.

Within our church family, I found out last night, a close friend had a biopsy yesterday, unexpectedly, on something in her mouth. We also have two gals undergoing surgery with in the next week. We also have several other folks with broken bones and other maladies, on the recovery end of things. Never seems to be a shortage of people to pray for.

Our class last night was not very interesting to us. Fortunately there is only one more left. About half of the class did not show up, unexpected things happened, so the discussion was even less than normal. I don't think this class should continue to be one of our core classes offered at church.

Think it is time to get to the day.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris <><
