Hot and then some!

June 26, 2007 (5:15am)
68º F, Clear, S wind, 3 mph.

Good morning,

We arrived at Guds Nordtre in the early afternoon and found everything high - temperature and gas prices. The temperature was in the 90's and rose as the afternoon went on. Inside of the Hobbit Hus was fairly cool, but it too warmed to almost unbearable before the sun set and things started to cool some. It is hot this morning for the time of day. Supposed to be hotter and humid-er today! Oh goodie.

The price of gasoline is higher here than in Kewaunee too - $3.049/gallon as apposed to $3.299/gallon in Spread Eagle. It is $3.099 here. The tax rate is much lower in Michigan than Wisconsin, so am some surprised by the higher price here for the past few months. In the past it was 10-15¢/gallon less here. Guess it is trying to keep up with the price of food here.

We came up by way of Iron Mountain this time. Stopped at our ISP to pay for the next months service. We get about a 15% discount that way. Also wanted to ask how to set up Margriet’s computer on the wireless, but the tech wants me to be at the computer and talk to him on the phone while he troubleshoots the situation. When we got home, my head was not working very well anymore, so will make the call today. I suspect we will need a card added to the computer so it will talk to the wireless connection. A few more dollars spent.

On the ride up, we stopped at the buffet in Iron Mountain for a late lunch. I was trying to stay awake for the hour or more before the stop for some reason. Haven’t done that for a long time. Don’t know what the reason was, but sure don’t like the feeling. The food was good as usual (not as good at the Old Country Buffet in Green Bay though), but Margriet wasn’t hungry, so didn’t eat much. We had picked up a couple of sweet rolls from the German bakery in Kewaunee as we left. She wished she had not gotten two for herself!

One of the things we brought up was the printer for the computer. It arrived safely, but I forgot to pack any paper! Have to go to Crystal Falls and get some this morning. Must be age that caused the forgetfulness. Sure do feel dumb though. Will be nice to have the ability to print things out here. Especially paying of the bills and like that.

There was a letter from my friend in jail yesterday. Dan is feeling very much down in the dumps and will not find out his fate until August, the end of the month I think. He has been incarcerated for 20 weeks now and it is really getting to him. He has done some serious things and I fear he will be there for long time to come. We are praying and hoping that is not the case, but it is up to the judge. From what I know of Dan, I really think he has learned a great deal from this. We continue to pray.

Margriet is planning to make the ingredients for our main meal this morning while it still is cool. She plans to make a Russian egg for supper. No idea why it is called that, but it is a kind of potato salad that is very good. She made it a few times last summer too. This little house doesn’t have a decent air flow pattern to bring in fresh air yet, so we have to plan some of our activities around the thermometer somewhat. Sure am glad I put in the small fans we used for moving the hot air from the wood stove around the house at FISKLAND. They have been a huge help. The ceiling fan also is a good thing too.

Time to get a-going.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris ><>
