Good morning,
Sure feels cool this morning. Like that mostly. Yesterday was a really nice cool and windy day. Very welcome after the hot and humid weather of the past few days. Supposed to heat up again on the weekend. We had some pretty good rain Sunday evening and night. It started with a shower of raindrops about the size of golf balls. They really splatted when landing. In all we got about ¾"-1" of rain. Much needed for the farmers here. There was some wind with it, but no real damage here. Other places were not so lucky.
So the truck is once again loaded for the trip up nort’ this morning. The storage unit is looking pretty empty now. Has been many years since it has been that empty. I think we have most of the boxes out of it and only some pieces of furniture and like that left in it. There is still a house full here, even though we have been boxing up and moving out from here too. It will be a short trip this time. We want to be back for church on Sunday and will leave again right after Bible study on Tuesday. Would like to stay there for a longer time and finish up some of the work there, before returning, but it ain’t in the cards this time.
We learned Sunday that our choir director will be leaving on next Sunday. There will be something special during the service and one of the gals is hosting a "surprise" potluck dinner for Tom and his family. They know they are coming for dinner, but don’t know a bunch of other folks will be showing up too. Tom has really grown, musically and spiritually since I met him when we came here. After losing his job in Milwaukee/Madison, he has found another in northern Illinois area. I think they had just bought a home in Milwaukee, thinking they would be moving there for his former job. Talked to him for about 30 seconds after church and it seems like things are falling into place for them. Grace will miss him and his family. We will too, especially me.
Bible study went rather well yesterday. I crossed the folks up a bit by really getting them to do some written work and thinking. It seemed strange to hear silence for a while as they worked. The showing up on Tuesday’s is getting harder and harder as time goes on. Helen is really fighting our not showing up. She is a busy gal, especially at this time of year with a lot of relatives coming and her going to see them.
We gave a written and oral report to the council of the Assembly last night. Margriet’s first experience with that and added some material I had not remembered. It was an interesting time, since I have not been to a council meeting for a while. It is a good thing I am not on council any longer. There are now two gals also with the name Chris now council members. Three would be just too many. One of the Chris’ just was married and now both Chris’ have a last name starting with K to add to the confusion.
We did get to Green Bay on Saturday. Fleet had the scaffolding on sale at 10% off, so picked up the rest of what I need. Saving a buck will buy another board or two. We also picked up a string grass trimmer. It is much easier to tackle the jungle here with it than a lawnmower, which doesn’t do a good job at all. This thing was on sale too, so got a better model than intended to. Happens to be a Husky, which I am some familiar with the company and trust their products. It really works pretty well too! We stopped to pick up some ink for the printer and Margriet started to drool over some of the new laptops on sale. They sure have come a long way in the past few years. Almost makes this one old fashioned! I did pick up a headset with a microphone so we can experiment with internet telephone a bit. That will have to wait until we get up nort’ and DSL though. Hope to get that working.
Margriet managed to bake a batch of cookies. The idea is to bring some of them to the gang at the realtor office we bought Guds Nordtre through. They really are a good bunch and we have to keep them some fat! Of course I had to check the quality of them, so she made a bunch of them a bit larger for me. The are tolerable.
Time to get a-going.
In Christ My Saviour,
Chris ><>
