Some Assembly Needed

June 2, 2007 (5:16am)
53º F, Fog, SSE wind, 2 mph.

Good morning,

Time to get to this. Over due. We got back to FISKLAND later in the afternoon on Thursday. Both of us pretty bushed. On the return, we expected to stop in Green Bay to pick up some stagging and other things as long as the truck was empty. We could pack around the big items for the trip back up nort’ again. Well .... we got rain instead. As we approached Green Bay the rain clouds appeared and when it came to the time we should shop, it was pouring. We did manage to stop at the Old Country Buffet for lunch (seems we almost always get to Green Bay at the time to eat lunch!) in the dry. We needed gas, but were able to fill under a canopy. Lowest price we had seen for over a week too. After we got here, we found out that the rain really became a frog choker after we went through, with some portions of the city with flooded streets.

After arriving we got caught up on our emails and like that. Lots there. Also stopped at the post office and a pile of stuff there too. Didn’t even finish all of that before it was necessary to take a nap. We both were very tired. Margriet managed to put together a hotdish for supper, finding that the ingredients she planned to use were already up nort’! Later we also found that some of our clothing had the same fate - in the wrong place! Sleep was good Thursday night.

Yesterday was Synod Assembly. Very tiring time and very good. We really didn’t do much actual business, that is for today. Yesterday was mostly reports and presenting the budget, along with a lot of fellowship. Still it was some long and tedious. Not used to being put in one chair for that long anymore. Had to get up and move around some, especially in the afternoon. We never did make contact with pastor before it was time to go, so drove over on our own, stopping at the German bakery in Kewaunee to pick up some sweet rolls to eat on the way as breakfast.

Lots of celebrations last night at dinner for congregations and pastors. My pastor from Shepherd in Waupaca was also one of those honored - 50 years of ordination. I did have a short chance to chat with Fred and enjoyed the very short time together. He looked a lot better than the last time I saw him and he had just returned from North Dakota fishing with a couple other retired pastors. Never did find out how many fish he caught, but apparently had a very good time.

We also caught up on others we have known in the past. Lots of memories and lies swapped. Looking over the folks at the dinner last night, I really was amazed at how many of the folks there I knew, either through LSM or other contacts within the synod. Of course I have been involved with this particular group for over 35 years so had lots of opportunity. Most gratifying for me is meeting and seeing the "old grads" of LSM and find out where they are today and what they are doing now.

Hopefully today will be a shorter day than yesterday. Would be nice to get back here before dark and have some energy left to do some packing or some such. Lord knows there is enough to do.
Time to get a-going.

In Christ My Saviour,

Chris ><>
