Good morning from Iron River,
We pulled in here about 3:15 P.M. after an uneventful ride up here. We did make a couple of stops along the way to pick up a couple necessary items we needed. One important thing was some bakery to chew on along the way from the new German bakery in Kewaunee. They got good stuff.
Since we were going by the eye doctor’s office, we stopped there to see if our new glasses were in yet. Before arriving, Margriet said her glasses in the past always took longer than anyone else’s. This time was no different. Mine were in and hers were held up with some problem in producing them! So we will check on the return ride. Mine make a world of difference. I can really see more now. I do have to get used to the location of the close up portion of them, the area is a bit smaller and lower in my field of vision than the old ones. But then I had the old ones built that way so I could see more as I was pitching insurance to clients across the table from me.
I am surprised at how little gasoline the truck used. With it loaded I thought it really would drink a lot. Turned out it took much less than of a tank. The tank is larger, but still surprised me. Hope indeed it is true and the gauge isn’t off a bit. Will find out when I fill it up. The price of gas is as high here as in Algoma (the high price in that area), $3.199/gallon, but we did see $3.149/gallon in this area too. Will be looking for that one on the way home.
We "checked in" with the realtor on our way into town. Just to let them know we were here and carrying a bag full of C-notes. It was so warm here, 84º F that they had their air-conditioning working - the doors and windows open. They were glad to see us, not only for the dollar they will be receiving but genuinely glad to see us. I have been corresponding with them a lot, especially the "noble assistant" Karla, about many things other than the buying of Guds Nordtre. I think we have found a bunch of Christian friends as the real profit of this adventure. Seem to be a bunch of others around this areal too.
Before checking into the motel, we made a side trip to the hardware store to pick up some tie downs to put inside of the truck. The price is much higher than I would like, but will do the job well I think. The hardware store here is a VERY well stocked store for almost anything one, like me, needs. I was some surprised to see that they don’t handle chainsaws though! They do have chains and bars, plus a couple of other repair parts, but that is about all. Hmmmmmmmm .... have to find another place to look I think.
The motel folks gave us our frequent sleeper discount for the last time. In a way, we really will miss staying here. It is a beautiful place to sit and write this, looking through the window above the desk at the lake and the sun come up over it. The ducks are busy diving off shore looking for breakfast. Every time we have been here the view and people have not disappointed us. Ice, rain, snow, or sunshine.
We ate a celebration dinner last night at the Railroad Station. We had stopped there before and were impressed then and again last night. Margriet had a chicken pasta dish and I had a "flat-iron" steak. It is expensive, but very good. I don’t get to eat steak very much and this one was one of the best. More than enough than I should eat, but managed to crawl on the outside of it anyway. Margriet didn’t make it and left some. The coffee is really good there, even though it is strong. Not as strong as Dutch coffee, but kind of a compromise that my Woman and her Man can enjoy. Probably will not be at that restaurant again any time soon.
The motel has free internet access now so am using it. Last time here, I set up the computer to use it, but didn’t have time to. So .... this time I decided to give it a chance. It is a DSL system and it sure are faster than at FISKLAND! If everything works right, we should have DSL at Guds Nordtre also. That really will be nice.
Now it is time to shake a tower, go to the motel office or breakfast and good conversation, then off to the business at hand. Time to get a-going.
In Christ My Saviour,
Chris ><>
