Good afternoon,
Da’ sweat she a-running! The humidity is sure a lot higher than the temperature for sure. I am sure all of the pores of my body will be clean shortly if not already. Really turned out to be a nice day, albeit humid, after the rain last night. We got in the neighborhood of a ½" of rain along with thunder and lightening. Didn’t hear or know of the sound and light show until I was told this morning. Slept right through it. Don’t do that often, but worked late and went to bed late yesterday. Up a bit after 4:00 A.M. this morning, so must have really slept soundly once my head hit the pillow.
I still have some of the truck yet to fill. I filled it at the storage unit until it was too dark to see inside. No problem with the truck as it has a light in the box if I need it. I only had about of it filled. I think I moved several thousand boxes into the truck. At least it felt like it. Today I am filling the remainder of the truck with stuff from here. There is a lot so I don’t think the truck will be empty. Must say the truck rides much better with even a partial load in it. Trying to figure out what we will need first is an interesting process to solve. Am sure something will be here that should be there. Probably will be the case for some time to come too.
I did get the convex spot mirrors attached to the rearview mirrors and that made a big difference in seeing what it is that I am running into. I also swept out the truck, finding the spare tire and jack loose in the back. Will need to attach them somewhere securely. At the moment they are residing behind the driver’s seat for the jack and the spare is wedged between the gas filler and the front wall of the box. I am surprised at the quality of construction of the box. Just looked up the company’s website to get the poop and scoop on how it was built. I need to attach some tie-downs and having some second thoughts as to how. Turns out the sandwich construction of the box has a core of ¾" plywood, so should have no problems. This trip, nothing will be tied, so am trying to wedge everything together between walls and ceiling to floor. Next trip should be different. The floor is made of ship-lap, treated 2"x6" pine. Sure seems to be sturdy with little wear. Still need to work on the sliding door to the cab. It rattles like crazy, but the boxes piled against it have stopped the problem for the moment.
We got the final bill this morning. Went down to the bank to get a certified, cashier’s check as soon as we found out. We should be ready to go tomorrow sometime. It is the largest check Margriet has ever written and she was a bit nervous. It is a good kind of nervous though. After we got home, she realized that we have spent a lot of money this week - first the truck and now the house. Hope never to repeat that again in our lifetime. The adventure continues!!!
We have settled on a name for our new abode. I, at least, have been puzzling over a name since we first started looking a year ago. Finally settled on Guds Nordtre - God’s Northwoods. Have to keep the Norsk theme you know - Eh! FISKLAND will stay here and remain FISKLAND. We hope the next owners will at least keep the spirit of the name. We think they will.
We celebrated my birthday yesterday very quietly. Margriet made Leberkase for dinner and we spent the morning/early afternoon at church helping serve and set up for a funeral. Food was good at both meals. Got a card from my little brother saying he would be sending me a new fancy car for my birthday - one piece at a time. I have now the first washer today!
Time to get a-going.
In Christ My Saviour,
Chris <><
